Lunch & Learn: Playful Ways to Help Children with Anxiety and Anger

As we know many children are struggling with anxiety and anger during these times. Participants will learn Directive Play Therapy techniques to help children manage their anxiety and anger virtually or in the play room. Coping skills will be introduced to help children who get emotionally dysregulated. Strategies to engage the family/guardians in treatment will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives: After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. identify three directives play therapy interventions that can be used to treat anxiety.
  2. demonstrate three directives play therapy interventions that can be used to treat anger.
  3. discuss three play therapy strategies to assist families in helping their children manage anxiety and anger.

About our presenter: Sheri Mitschelen, LCSW, RPT-S is Owner and Clinical Director of Crossroads Family Counseling Center, LLC in Fairfax, VA. Sheri has over 30 years of experience working with children, adolescents and families specializing in working with children with emotional regulation and attachment issues. Sheri has had post graduate training in Family Therapy, Child and Infant Mental Health, Play Therapy, and Adoption Competency. She is an Adjunct Faculty member at George Mason University School of Social Work and Virginia Tech. Marriage and Family Therapy Program. She has done numerous play therapy presentations in the area and at the Association for Play Therapy annual conference. She is currently the President of the Virginia Play Therapy Association.

VIRTUAL: This will be a virtual meeting. Participants will be awarded CONTACT CE upon successful completion of a post test. Participants must be visible throughout the presentation. Due to COVID-19 health concerns, this one-time online event has been approved by APT for 2 CONTACT CE Hours.

NEAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 02-123. NEAPT maintains responsibility for the program. Registrants understand and agree that any photograph, video or audio recording of themselves may be used to further promote NEAPT.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be requested in writing and received no later than June 7, 2020. Cancellations are subject to a $15 processing fee. Substitutions (someone else attending) or transfer of registration to another training date may be requested.
