Lunch & Learn: Addressing Grief and Loss in the Play Room
The training is designed to assist therapists in using play therapy-based techniques to support clients and families who are dealing with grief and loss issues. Primary and secondary grief and loss issues are seen frequently during play therapy sessions, therefore it behooves therapists to: have a solid understanding of the symptoms and effects of grief, how our child clients understand grief and loss, and the ways in which play therapy can support coping skills. We will also work to dispel the myths commonly encountered when dealing with grief and loss in child clients.
Learning Objectives: After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the play therapy themes of children dealing with grief and loss (Primary and Secondary)
- Identify 1-2 play therapy techniques to the elements of grief and loss seen in the play therapy room
- Identify ways in which play therapy and play therapists can support the family system with learning how to cope with grief
