Supervision of Play Therapy with Traumatized Children
This presentation focuses on using a trauma informed play therapy lens for supervision. Participants will be immersed in the emotional, behavioral, and psychological markers of developmental trauma, and the special issues these children present in the way they negotiate relationships with self, others, and their communities (including school) and particularly with their play therapists. Play therapy supervisors will identify how to titrate the multifaceted roles they have in supervision as when their supervisees are providing services to traumatized children.
Theoretical Basis: Phenomenological and humanistic
Learning Objectives: After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
1) identify post-traumatic play and how it emerges in supervision;
2) describe play therapy informed techniques suitable for use in supervision that will demonstrate ways of connecting to children who have been traumatized; and
3) describe skills for improving relationships with traumatized children that can be passed on to supervisees.
