Filial Play Therapy

Filial Play Therapy is one of the historically significant/ seminal theories recognized by the Association for Play Therapy. This three-hour workshop will provide a brief overview of the history of Filial Play Therapy, a review of the founders, as well as the basic core tenets. We will review the therapeutic powers of play that are most commonly activated within this theory and will observe examples of therapeutic interventions for this historically significant approach.    

Learning Objectives: After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the core tenets of Filial Play.
  2. Identify how the therapeutic powers of play are activated within Filial Play.
  3. List 3-5 techniques play therapists utilize in Filial Play.

About our presenter: MariaElena Jauregui-Cross, MA, LPCC, Registered Play Therapist, IMH-III holds an Infant Mental Health endorsement at level 3, and is currently working toward becoming a RPT-S. MariaElena fell in love with Play Therapy during her internship and continues learn about and advocate for Play Therapy. Her agency is a training site for providing an Introduction to Play Therapy for bachelors and masters students. She is currently serving as the President of the New Mexico Association for Play Therapy.

VIRTUAL: This will be a virtual meeting. Participants will be awarded CONTACT CE upon successful completion of a post test. Participants must be visible throughout the presentation. Due to COVID-19 health concerns, this one-time online event has been approved by APT for 3 CONTACT CE Hours.

NEAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 02-123. NEAPT maintains responsibility for the program. Registrants understand and agree that any photograph (screen shot), video or audio recording of themselves may be used to further promote NEAPT.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be requested in writing and received no later than April 1, 2022. Cancellations are subject to a $15 processing fee. Substitutions (someone else attending) or transfer of registration to another training date may be requested. No refunds or partial refunds after April 1, 2022.
