Welcome to the Darkside: Understanding and Using Villains in Play Therapy
Do you want to use the power of villains to help your clients heal?
Counselors and therapists are often bombarded with pop culture references from their clients, especially younger ones. And while superheroes are often a popular topic, villains can be even more appealing, especially to child and teen clients.
In this 3-hour workshop, you'll delve into the "dark side" of pop culture to discover what makes these dramatically damaged characters who they are. You'll also learn how to use these dynamics to facilitate healing in treatment.
Even if you're not a dedicated pop culture geek, you can learn how to incorporate the wisdom of the villainous into therapy with clients of almost any age. Join us to discover interventions you can use as soon as you get back to your clinical practice.
Learning Objectives: After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify three ways to use villains and "bad guys" with teens and adults to increase rapport and connection in play therapy.
- Name two play therapy interventions utilizing villains and "bad guys" to facilitate communication and connection with teens and adults in play therapy.
- Explain 2 common reasons that villains are of interest with teens and adults and how to reframe them into positive connections.
