Cultural Inclusive Play Therapy
Children and families come to play therapy with diverse cultures, identities, and backgrounds. These identities influence how they engage in the playroom and with the play therapist. It is important for a play therapist to display cultural humility in their professional practice. This webinar will challenge the play therapist to evaluate the way they treat and view the behaviors of clients from diverse populations. Additionally, attendees will explore how bias presents in the playroom, using self-reflective activities, to allow professionals to identify and address cultural biases in play therapy sessions. Play therapists will be able to gain a deeper understanding of how to promote cultural inclusivity when working with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
Learning Objectives: After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify five ways bias may appear in the playroom.
- List at least three aspects of a culturally competent play therapist.
- Describe at least three steps to gain cultural competence in play therapy with diverse populations.
