Best Practices for Parent Consultations: Developing Confidence in Your Parent Meetings

Play therapists often state that involving parents is one of the most challenging aspects of their work (Ray, 2011). Through this workshop, attendees will review best practices for parent/caregiver consultations as well as engage in preparatory activities that will strengthen this skill for supporting children and measuring progress in play therapy.

Learning Objectives: After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. discuss how relevant research related can be applied in 3 ways to parent/caregiver consultations.
  2. discuss 3 reasons why it can be difficult to work with parents/caregivers in play therapy.
  3. outline 4 best practices for play therapy parent consultations according to research.
  4. utilize documentation model for preparing for play therapy parent consultations.
