ADHD & Play Therapy

This workshop is designed to provide participants with an understanding of using play therapy as a therapeutic approach for children with ADHD. Participants will delve into the theoretical foundations of play therapy and its relevance in addressing ADHD symptoms. Practical strategies for creating engaging and effective play therapy sessions will be explored, including techniques for enhancing emotional regulation, attention and social skills.

Learning Objectives: After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe three principles of play therapy and their application in treating core symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
  2. Discuss five effective strategies for successfully engaging children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in therapeutic play therapy sessions.
  3. Explain three techniques for measuring and improving emotional regulation and attention span through play therapy interventions in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

About our presenter: Dr. Mary Rottier is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan and Georgia, a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™, Certified Animal Assisted Play Therapy® Therapist, Instructor, and Supervisor, as well as a Certified Child Trauma Specialist. She has over twenty years of clinical experience in her private practice, Pawsitive Counseling Center.

NEAPT Members $50; Guests $60 

VIRTUAL: This will be a virtual meeting. NEAPT requests that video cameras be on and participants be visible throughout the presentation to facilitate engagement. Participants will be awarded APT Non-Contact CE upon successful completion of a post test. 

NEAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 02-123. NEAPT maintains responsibility for the program. 

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be requested in writing and received no later than November 14, 2025. Cancellations are subject to a $15 processing fee. Substitutions (someone else attending) or transfer of registration to another training date may be requested. No refunds or partial refunds after November 14, 2025.
